What exactly are the lights supposed to be doing on the FreeAgent Theater Dock?
- The Power button is equipped with dual colors: amber and white.
If the power light is off, no power is being supplied to the unit. Verify that your power supply is plugged in, that your power strip is powered on, and that it is plugged into a known-good wall outlet.
- The Select, Menu, Pause / Play, and Stop buttons illuminate white only.
What are the lights supposed to do after powering on the unit?
- After connecting the power cable to the FreeAgent Theater AV Dock, the Power light will illuminate amber and start its standby sequence. The Power light will flash for roughly 30 seconds and remain solid when it reaches standby. The Power light should remain illuminated (amber) whenever power is connected.
- Pressing the Power button on the remote control or the FreeAgent Theater AV Dock should illuminate all buttons solid white with the exception of the Power button, which will alternate between amber and white for about five seconds before remaining solid white.
- After the above sequence is complete, the FreeAgent Theater should be viewable on your television screen. Any storage devices plugged in at this time should take roughly 10 seconds before they become accessible from the FreeAgent Theater television interface.
Error conditions indicated by blinking lights
The Power light will blink an error code in case of a problem.
- Power light blinking 1 Amber and 1 White light continuously indicates a memory error.
Troubleshooting steps:
- Try disconnecting the power, re-connecting, and powering the unit back on to clear the error.
- If that does not fix the problem, download and upgrade the firmware for your FreeAgent Theater AV Dock.
- If the firmware upgrade does not repair the error and you know the power supply is OK, replace the FreeAgent Theater AV Dock.
- Power light blinking 1 White and 3 Amber indicates a firmware upgrade error.
This error can be caused by a bad FreeAgent Theater AV Dock, corrupt firmware, a bad memory stick / flash drive, power interruption, or operator error.
Troubleshooting steps:
- Re-format your memory stick, download a fresh version of the firmware, and perform the firmware upgrade procedure again.
- Make sure the power is not interrupted during the firmware upgrade process.
- If the second firmware flash does not fix the problem, try unplugging and re-plugging the power.
- Try resetting to factory defaults. With the unit powered on, press and hold theReset button for 10 seconds and release. Upon restart you should see a prompt to select a language.
- If all the above procedures do not fix this error code, replace the FreeAgent Theater unit.
- Power light blinking white continuously indicates a hard disk drive (HDD) SMART failure.
This is not a problem with the FreeAgent Theater. It is a problem with the hard disk drive that is connected to the FreeAgent Theater.
Troubleshooting steps:
Remove any hard disk drives that are connected to the FreeAgent Theater Dock and test them with Seagate's SeaTools hard disk diagnostic utility on a PC. If you are connecting a non-Seagate hard drive to the FreeAgent Theater via the external USB port, remove the drive and test with the manufacturer's diagnostic software on a PC.
