The speed at which data is transferred from one place to another. With regard to tape or disc drives, the movement from the media to the read circuitry is referred to as the internal transfer rate. The movement from the drive’s interface buffers to the controller’s interface buffers is referred to as the external transfer rate. Also called DTR.
