Types of disc media defects usually caused by a pinhole in the disc coating. If the coating is interrupted, the magnetic flux between the medium and head is zero. A large interruption will induce two extraneous pulses, one at the beginning and one at the end of the pinhole (two drop-ins). A small coating interruption will result in no playback from a recorded bit (a dropout).
