Extended Industry Standard Architecture. An enhanced version of the PC/AT architecture that provides backward compatibility with existing 8- and 16-bit hardware cards. In addition, EISA supports 32-bit data paths, 33 Mbytes/sec data transfers from bus mastering peripheral cards, automatic configuration, and a more sophisticated I/O addressing scheme.
