A DOS operation which uses part of the computer's random access memory (RAM) to simulate a disc drive. The RAM disc and all contents disappear if power is lost or DOS main memory is restarted. RAM is far faster (microseconds) than discs (milliseconds), so application programs which access the disc run faster.
