To minimize the effects of peak shift, the magnitude of the write current is reduced on the innermost tracks of the drive. When installing a drive, the number requested by the user is the first track number to begin reduced write current. That track, and all subsequent tracks, will be written with reduced write current. This is required only with MFM and RLL interface drives.
